NIGHT AND DAY

What is this Pitchfork writer smoking? The news section has taken even more of a dive in recent months, with a heavy editorial bent that's usually pretty terrible. But here she talks about the Crookers remix of Kid Cudi's "Day 'n' Night."

"It's been interesting to gauge the differences in the fan reaction-- there's apparently more than an ocean between the U.S. and the UK. The heavy club sound that makes the remix so popular with Brits has much less resonance Stateside."

It's been interesting? How have you gauged this? Because it was almost a year ago where it was literally impossible for me to hear a DJ set - right here, in the U.S. - without this track in it. I got really, really sick of it. And people were still always into the bass sound. So I have no idea what you are talking about.

Pointless but still frustrating.

MY COUSIN ROY

MY COUSIN ROY

My Cousin Roy returns to Too Much Love at First Avenue this Satuday for a night of disco and house addled abandon!

My Cousin Roy, aka Roy Dank, runs the Wurst Edits record label, one of the leading forces in disco's current comeback of sorts (most would say it never went away). Wurst's discography includes releases from some of 2008's biggest names, like Runaway (DFA/Rekids), Eamon Harkin (Prime Time), Douglas Sound (aka Rong Music's Lee Douglas), and Roy's own edits as well. Roy has DJed with the world's best and brightest, including previous residencies with Brennan Green and at NYC's Club 205.

When Roy was last in town he rocked the biggest crowd TML has ever seen. Do not miss him this time! I will be opening the night. You can also catch him tonight at Ackerman's Hotel party at the Kitty Cat Klub.

Check out a track for download and interview at Dollar Bin Jams, where Roy names TML as one of his favorite places to play, Also grab another download at his feature on RCRD LBL. Facebook event page is here.

SANTOS

A behind the scenes tour of Santos Party House. I can't figure this place out: it looks amazing (SPEAKERS), and every person I've talked to who has played there adores it, but I think every person I've talked to who has been a customer has disliked it.

In the past year alone, Harkin has shared bills with many of dance music's most elite. For his party Prime Time at new NYC hot spot Santos Party House, Harkin has hosted DJs including electro pioneer Greg Wilson, Rub-N-Tug, DFA's Hercules & Love Affair, disco edit master Todd Terje, and Italo disco legend Alexander Robotnick, while his weekly summer jam Sunday Best featured sets from Roy Davis Jr., Riton, Danny Wang, Joakim, and Kevin Saunderson. Check out his Myspace and his recent classic house mix.

N.V.

I'm at "premium nightclub" Envy for the first time tonight with my pal DJ Bach and some other peeps. I honestly had never heard of Lee Burridge until I got added to this. I also don't know what bloghaus or ghettotech is. Here is the info for the show:

LEE BURRIDGE
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH @ ENVY

In a career that now spans two decades, Lee Burridge is a globally acclaimed DJ who regularly appears in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list, and has rocked iconic festivals like Exit, Creamfields, Love Parade, Dance Valley, Ultra, Acafest and Coachella. He’s commanded no less than four compilations, including two for the world-beating Global Underground series, and has thrown his own The Burridge Barrage party at the Miami Winter Music Conference for the last three years’ running. And, in between all of this, he’s found the time and energy to travel the globe thrilling clubs from Jakarta to Johannesburg, and fulfilling residencies from New York to Sydney...and of course...MINNEAPOLIS. On November 6th, he comes to groove Envy with his signature techy regressive sound. Lee Burridge owns...be at this show. You won't regret it.

JEWELS

Johnny Jewel, from Italians Do It Better, and producer for Glass Candy, Chromatics, Farah, and others, is featured on XLR8R's In the Studio currently. Jewel is "really superstitious" about his synths.

Speaking of, I generally prefer Glass Candy to Chromatics, but therecently disbanded and soon-to-be reformed Chromatics put up a new demo on Myspace a little while ago called "Lady," and it's really great.
